Asher’s nursery reveal

I had one main goal when it came to designing Asher’s nursery- to make a space that was sweet and serene. We adore it, and I’m so excited to share it!

Asher is too.

Most elements in this room were a labor of love. I can’t go further without expressing gratitude for all the help I had putting this nursery together. My friend Shana is an interior designer, and helped me sort through my ideas for Baby Coe’s jungalow, to create a room neutral enough to grow with Asher and our family, and utilize space and storage effectively. And so many friends and family helped us execute the vision!

We started with a plain white room, but I knew early on that I wanted to make a statement with wallpaper. I spent hours and hours sorting through different botanical patterns, and fell for Kate Butler’s pattern ‘tropical white flower’ from spoonflower. Much to David’s dismay, the background white was a slightly different shade of white than the room was, so he got to repaint (the new white is Behr Bit of Sugar). And I got insane quotes for installation, so we decided to endeavor it ourselves after some YouTube research. Hanging wallpaper is a 3+ person job if you’d like it to go swiftly and smoothly, and our friends Kira and Marcus were instrumental in making this happen. It was hot as all hell, and I was so pregnant that I pretty much just snacked and supervised while they did the heavy lifting. We were all total amateurs, but knocked it out in two afternoons.

I customized the name sign to coordinate, and we put his monitor onto a floor stand so we didn’t have to put a hole into the new wallpaper. We’re big fans of the Nanit– I watch it like a tv show and love that it records all the details so that this sleep-deprived mama doesn’t need to.

I did a lot when it came to the dresser and bookshelves as well- or rather, David and his dad did. I fell for these spendy versions, but David promptly vetoed those price points for kid’s furniture, arguing it would all end up scribbled on. A google dive led me to this tutorial on ABM, which made Ikea customization seem super easy. So we ran with it, customizing a dresser and two bookshelves. It took a while to do- measuring and remeasuring, then drilling pilot holes and hand screwing in all the brass hardware from D Lawless. But the elder Coe men painstakingly executed my vision, and it came out perfectly.

This rocker, too, was a wholeeeeee thing. I hated all the more modern gliders kept seeing, so went vintage hunting for something less heavy. Shana found this bentwood and cane rocker in San Diego, and David saved us several hundred dollars in shipping by fetching it. I painstakingly masked off the cane before we spray painted it white.

Asher’s room gets a ton of natural light, so it’s a really cheerful atmosphere. I do have to adjust the bamboo blinds multiple times a day for naps, but all that sunshine means all the greenery in Asher’s jungalow is flourishing. Major accomplishment for this black-thumbed mama.🤗
