holiday greens

When it comes to holiday attire, I tend to shy away from the typical. Perhaps it’s that our family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, but the red and white that is everywhere this time of year doesn’t really ring my bells. For me, holiday fancies hinge on luxurious textures and festive textiles, and I lean towards blue, green, and metallics.

My favorite shade to wear for cool weather this year is emerald green. Emeralds are my birthstone, so it’s a longtime affection, rejuvenated by the way it complements the silvery tones on my hair. I like that the color is festive, but not exclusively holiday- for example, I plan on wearing this shimmery pleated skirt and Swiss dotted blouse (how darling is that ribbon tie?) on repeat this season and then well into spring, both separately and together.

And I was definitely going for a statement with my layers, too. This Steve Madden coat from modcloth is so cozy- it’s the softest fuzzy velveteen- that I literally couldn’t wait for the Californian sunshine to cool off enough that I could wear it. And I love how the leopard coat makes the leopard accents on my block heels pop as well.

And we may not do loads of super fancy things during the holidays, but I generally have a handful of excuses to get all gussied up. And this year, I’m prepared. More emerald green, this time in slightly stretchy velvet. This gorgeous wrap gown is as comfortable as pajamas,  and under a hundred dollars, so I’m honestly shocked it’s still in stock on modcloth.

Those dolman sleeves are giving me life, along with the sheen on the fabric and the little puddle train. I wore it for our anniversary dinner in Mexico this week and felt like a Hollywood silent film star in it.

this post is sponsored by modcloth, but as always, all opinions are my own, and I don’t wear anything I don’t love.
